Cloud 9 Festival goes like a dream

Last Sunday, in a field in Cheshire, Cloud 9 festival made its mark for 2011. Sprinkles of sun mixed with some great music acts, among other things, made the day more than enjoyable.

The StudentMap team were invited to the festival and we found it too hard to turn down. If you were lucky enough to get a ticket this year or maybe planning to go next year then here is our quick review on what to expect.

We woke up on Saturday morning with the daunting task of getting to a small village near Crewe in time for the festival. It was easy enough as the website directed us in a number of ways. Due to obvious reasons (possibly alcoholic) we decided to get the train to Crewe. It was from here that we could get the FREE shuttle bus to the festival.

Once we had arrived the atmosphere at the festival was growing and some great music acts were already well under way. We headed to the bar only to find out that we had to buy drinks with tokens (how cool). It was £10 for 6 tokens which got you 3 cans of beer or 6 soft drinks. The token system meant that there was virtually no queue at the bar.

As the day at Cloud 9 festival went on our tummies were rumbling and we were not disappointed with the choice of food. There were burgers, falafels, curries, noodles and much more on offer. I personally went for a hummus rap (healthy option) followed by some delicious cupcakes (not so healthy option). The food was not too expensive and surprisingly good quality for a festival.

It was at this point that we remembered what the festival was all about (the music). A crowd was building up around the main stage so we wandered over to see what was going out. Girls were screaming at the top of their voices for Ed Sheeran. You may be aware of his recent rise to fame and his set was incredible. In my opinion he was the highlight of the festival and drew one of the largest crowds of the day.

Other highlights included Scratch Perverts (who had an amazing set), The Futureheads, Funkedemia and Will Tramp plus many more. I feel as if I could go on forever about the music that was on offer but you can check out the set list for yourself at the Cloud 9 Festival.

Overall we had a great day and it looked like everyone else did too. We would recommend the festival to anyone  and would like to say a big thank you to the members of the team that made the festival a great success. Look out for the festival next year and be sure to pop along.
